Norman Choy Sr. Obituary

Norman Choy Sr. was born May 5th 1933 in Sacramento Ca. to Harry(Gong) and Alice(Chan)Choy. He proudly worked as a “Paperboy” delivering papers for the Sacramento Bee to buy a house for his grandmother(Francis Chan)who raised him after his parents deaths. He enlisted into the United States Navy in 1953 and served on The USS Blackstone River (LSMR)(403) Navel ship during the Korean war and earned a Nation Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal (ONE (01) Star). He was a life time member of the Nisei VFW post 8985, Kochi Kenji Kai, and a member of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He worked as a machinist first for Southern Pacific Railroad in Sacramento and later at Aerojet. He moved on as a Civil Engineer Technician for Army Corps of Engineers where he retired in the mid 1980’s. He Married Jean Yoko Abe on October, 7th 1962 and both happily resided in Sacramento area and were married for 62 years.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents Harry(Gong)Choy and Alice(Chan)Choy, by the age of eight years old, and his grandmother Francis Chan. He is survived by his loving wife Jean Yoko (Abe) Choy, his daughter Marcy F. Choy, his two sons Gregory K. Choy and Norman R. Choy Jr, his daughter-in-law Elizabeth Choy, granddaughter Micaella Houston, grandsons Payton Cole and Riley Choy, as well as six great-grandchildren, and his Gong family in Guangzhou, China. 

Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (8056 Oak Ave., Citrus Heights, CA 95610).  A lunchone will be held at 12:30pm at Chopstick Restaurant (1000 Sunrise Avenue Unit 12A, Roseville, CA 95661).
