Paul A. Hayes, Jr. entered peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at home on February 13, 2021 at the age of 58. He fought colorectal cancer for six and one half years with courage and dignity. At the forefront of his battle, he believed wholeheartedly in Philippians 1:21, “For me to live is Christ and to die is gain”. Paul was a loving husband to Rosario Rodriguez, his wife of 14 years, and was a dedicated Papa Paul to Antonio Velasquez (15) who he raised. He was the son of Paul A. Hayes, Sr (Tharon) and Judith Patzwald (Ed). Paul loved and was deeply loved by his family; sister Julie Babb (Scott) of Anthem, Arizona, Joseph Hayes, John Hayes of Texas, Jennifer Robbins and James Robbins, in addition to many cousins, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and stepson, Yovanny Chamberlin. He was also a beloved Papa Paul to Leo Chamberlin and Stefano Chamberlin. Paul was an integral part of Rosario's family and will be greatly missed by all.
As a native of Sacramento, Paul attended Valley High School and Sacramento State University, obtaining a degree in Civil Engineering. He was employed with the California Department of Transportation as a Professional Engineer up until his death. Paul had many close and loyal friends at Caltrans who he considered his extended family. He often spoke of the gratitude for his friendships at work. Paul was also the owner of Sutter Street Taqueria in Historic Folsom with his wife, Rosario. Paul was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Folsom since 2007.
Paul is a Veteran of the United States Coast Guard and was stationed in Coos Bay, Oregon. He enjoyed sports from a young age and was a faithful Raider and A's fan, but enjoyed supporting the SF Giants, 49ers and Warriors.
Family and friends are welcomed to attend a socially distant service on Monday, March 1, 2021 at Bayside Church Folsom, 890 Glenn Drive, Folsom, Ca. The viewing will be from 10:30am - 12:00pm, and the service will be at 1:00pm. A military burial will be scheduled at a later date for immediate family due to COVID restrictions.
