Richard Alan Herrick, known to many as "Rich," of Citrus Heights, California, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, at the age of 63. Rich left this world with a legacy of laughter, adventure, and an unwavering love for his family and friends. His infectious spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the fortune to know him.

Born on February 12, 1962, in Fairfield, California, Rich grew up alongside his parents, siblings, and a large blended and extended family. Rich's childhood was filled with love, laughter, and the values that would later shape him into the truly remarkable man he became.

Rich embarked on a career in construction in 1982, working for notable companies such as Granite Construction, Teichert Construction, and US5 Engineering Group, working in all aspects of large underground construction projects, ultimately rising to the level of superintendent and construction inspector. He found immense satisfaction in his work, which enabled him to leave a lasting mark on the landscapes around him through projects such as the Consumnes River Boulevard Interchange, the Sacramento Railyard Relocation Project, and the McClellan Park Project.

In 1991, Rich met the love of his life, Vonnie, whom he later married in 1997, and thus began their beautiful partnership. Together, they crafted a life filled with adventure, laughter, and cherished memories, traveling to Hawaii almost every year and going on many vacations, cruises, and motorcycle rides to far-off places. Their love stood as a testament to the strong bond they shared, one that enriched the lives of everyone around them. Rich was a devoted stepfather to Carla, but his true love was his granddaughter, Tatum, from whom he derived great joy and pride and who shared his love of the outdoors.

Rich possessed a zest for life that was truly contagious. Known for lighting up any room he entered, he spent every moment savoring life's adventures. Whether camping at the beloved family spot of "Murphy," hunting, fishing, golfing, or perfecting his trap shooting skills, Rich lived life to the fullest. He was a skilled bowler, proud of his achievement of being the first person to bowl a 300-game at Birdcage Bowl when it first opened. He also enjoyed engaging in friendly games of cribbage, pool, or darts with friends and family.

Rich's life was marked by his readiness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His warmth and compassion rarely went unnoticed, and his ever-present smile was a comfort to those around him. Rich's love and laughter will continue to echo in the hearts of all those he touched. His adventurous spirit and utter joy for life leave an indelible impact—a reminder to live fully and love deeply.

Rich is survived by his loving wife, Vonnie; his devoted parents, Darrel and Bonnie Herrick; his siblings, Raymond Herrick, Darrel Herrick (Kris), Teri Johnson, Patrick Gormley, Penny Gormley, and Genevieve Conway; his stepdaughter, Carla Baldwin; his cherished granddaughter, Tatum Higginbotham; along with a host of extended family and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts. Rich was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Gormley and brother, Robert Herrick.

A memorial service for Rich will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Price's Funeral Chapel, 6335 Sunrise Blvd., Citrus Heights, California.
