Richard "Terry" Terrell Hoopes

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Richard “Terry” Terrell Hoopes, age 90, on December 5, 2025. Terry was born April 24, 1935, in Thatcher, Arizona, and had made his home with his family in Meadow Vista, California, since 1964. There, he built a life grounded in faith, family, service, and quiet devotion to others.

Terry was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a faith that anchored and shaped his life. As a young man, he served a full-time mission in North Carolina, an experience that strengthened his devotion to service. Later in life, he served faithfully as the Bishop of his local congregation from 1995 to 2000, offering guidance, compassion, and spiritual support to many.

After completing dental school at USC and 2 years of service in the Air Force, Terry practiced as a compassionate and respected dentist in Auburn California for 40 years, and earned a masters degree in public health from the University of San Francisco. Terry served two terms as president of the Placer Hills Union District.
 
Beyond his professional and church service, Terry had a love of aviation and travel. As a private pilot, he often flew his Mooney airplane to visit family throughout the western United States—a joy that combined his adventurous spirit with his devotion to loved ones. He was also an avid fly fisherman. 

Terry is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Tamara C. Hoopes; his children Richard T. Hoopes II,  Sydney Ash, Leslie Chi, Tara Larson, Hillary Hall, and John Hoopes; as well as 24 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, who carry forward his legacy of faith, love, and gentle strength.

A memorial service will be held on January 24, 2026 at 10 am, at the Colfax LDS church building, 1875 South Auburn Street, Colfax, California. Family and friends are invited to attend and honor his life.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by his goodness.
