Robert Roy Forsberg Obituary

Robert Roy "Bob" Forsberg, known for his warm heart and steadfast spirit, passed away at the remarkable age of 95 on July 31, 2024, in Roseville, CA. Born on March 4, 1929, in Long Beach, CA, he was the cherished son of Roy Frank Forsberg and Pearl Ione Crismon Forsberg. Bob was a devoted husband to his lifelong love, Jennett S. Forsberg, with whom he shared nearly 71 years of marriage.

Bob was the eldest of five siblings—Gloria, Janet, Jerry, and Cheryl—forming close bonds that lasted a lifetime. Growing up in Compton, CA, he began his educational journey at Lynwood Elementary School. From an early age, Bob's keen intellect and curiosity set him apart, where his bright mind quickly advanced him a school year from kindergarten to first grade. His academic path took him through Augusta A Mayo Elementary School for grades six through eight, later attending Logan Junior High and Logan High School after the family's move to Utah. Bob's determination led him to graduate high school at just 17 years old, and he went on to pursue higher education at Utah State Agricultural College, majoring in Civil Engineering before finding his passion in geology at Utah State University. He was an active student, involved in the geology club, Delta Phi fraternity, and Air Force ROTC, immersing himself in learning and lifelong friendships.

It was at a combined Delta Phi/Sigma Kappa party during his college years that Bob met the love of his life, Jennett Swenson. Their connection was instant and resounding leading to a lifelong partnership, sealed for eternity in marriage on November 23, 1953. In his final year of college, Bob's expertise in geology led to a role with General Geophysical, where he contributed to subsurface mapping for oil companies. However, his career was short-lived as his dedication to his country called him to serve in the Air Force, beginning active duty in March of 1954.

Bob served as an Intelligence Officer during the Korean War, a role that showcased his sharp mind and unwavering integrity. Upon returning to the United States, his military service continued in the Air Force Reserves, where he steadily rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, ultimately proudly serving as Commander of the 349th Military Airlift Command’s Prime BEEF Squadron at Travis Air Force Base. With over 28 years of service, Bob's love for his country was evident. His deep sense of duty and patriotism was the bedrock of his character, and he often spoke of the value of service to one’s country.

After his active-duty military service, Bob embarked on a distinguished career in civil service starting with the California Department of Water Resources, where he worked on significant projects like the Oroville Dam. This job required extensive travel, keeping him away from home and family. Wanting to be closer to his family, Bob later moved to the Board of Equalization, where he became an expert in railroad and mining company taxation. His expertise was sought far and wide, taking him to Wyoming and then Oregon, where he played a pivotal role in rewriting tax codes and laws. Even in retirement, Bob’s knowledge and experience were sought after, leading him back to consulting work. After decades of dedicated service and despite “retiring” multiple times, Bob’s dedication to work brought him back to the California Board of Equalization until his final retirement in 1993.

Bob was a man of deep faith, a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His service in the Eastern Canadian Mission from 1949 to 1951 was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with lasting friendships and spiritual fulfillment. He held many leadership positions in the church, including serving as Bishop in his local congregation. His faith was the foundation of his character, guiding him through life’s challenges and joys.

Beyond his professional and religious life, Bob was a man of many passions. He obtained his private pilot license and enjoyed flying Beechcraft and Cessna planes. Like his father before him, he was an accomplished horseman and loved his Quarter horses, moving them from California, to Wyoming, then Oregon, and back with them to California. He found joy in woodworking, traveling, capturing moments through photography, and cheering on his favorite sports teams. But above all, his greatest joy came from being “Bampa” to his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family was his pride and joy and the center of his world; his love for them was boundless.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Jennett; his children, David Robert Forsberg (Jennifer Lynn Taylor) of Marysville, WA, and Terresa Lynn Forsberg Simonson of Rocklin, CA; and his cherished grandchildren, Niki Malie Forsberg Garrison (Daniel Sean Garrison), Nephi David Forsberg (Phylise Seldin), Sean Michael Forsberg (Jennifer Alyce Kump), Robert Taylor Forsberg (Ember Adler), Julia Ann Forsberg Walker (Drew Ashton Walker), Alison Lynn Forsberg, Stephen Brooks Forsberg, and Austin James Simonson. He also leaves behind his treasured great-grandchildren, Dylan, Collin, Ethan, Ridley, Emma, Ruthie, Luna, Bryce, and Ivy. Bob’s love for his family was eternal, and his legacy will live on through them.

The family invites all who knew Bob to celebrate his life at a service on August 14th, 2024, at 9:30 AM, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2831 Theona Way, Rocklin, California. A military honors interment will follow at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery from 12:30 to 1:00 PM, where Bob will be laid to rest with military honors, a fitting tribute to a life dedicated to service and with the dignity and respect he so deeply earned.

Bob’s life was a testament to the values he held dear. His life was one of service, love, and devotion; defined by his love for God, his family, and his country. The loss of his presence, wisdom, and warmth will leave a significant void for all who were blessed to know him. Bob will be deeply missed, but the love he gave and the example he set will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. If love alone could have kept him with us, he would still be here today.

Price Funeral Chapel of Citrus Heights, CA, is assisting with arrangements. Bob’s life was filled with service, love, and dedication—to his family, his faith, his country, and his community. His passing will be felt profoundly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
