Robert Oliver Ludwig Sr.
January 30, 1934 – September 18, 2026
Robert Oliver Ludwig, Sr., passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, in Carmichael, California, at the age of 92. He was born on January 30, 1934, in Paul, Idaho, to Oliver and Leah Ludwig. Robert was the oldest of six children—four boys and two girls—and throughout his life, family remained one of his greatest sources of love and joy.
Robert proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1952 to 1955 and was a Korean War veteran.
On November 15, 1956, Robert married his beloved wife, Emma Elaine Collings, in Portland, Oregon. Together they shared nearly 70 years of marriage, building a life filled with family, faith, service, and countless memories. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Sacramento, California, where they made their home and raised their family.
Robert continued his education, earning an associate degree from Sacramento City College through the G.I. Bill. He went on to serve the people of California through a 30-year career with the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
Robert had many interests throughout his life. He loved to sing, and sang in choirs in school and at church. He was an avid stamp collector. He was involved in Scouting for many years. He especially enjoyed camping and hiking and treasured the opportunities those activities provided to spend time with family and friends.
Faith was also an important part of Robert’s life. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he found fellowship, purpose, and many opportunities to serve others.
In 1998, Robert and Elaine moved to Rancho Tehama, California. The years they spent there brought many cherished experiences and memories. In 2023 they returned to the Sacramento area so they could be closer to family.
Robert will be lovingly remembered by his wife Elaine; his children, Rebecca, Robert, Kenneth, Vivian, and Mark; his 13 grandchildren; and his 25 great-grandchildren. He will also be remembered by his extended family, friends, church members, and all those whose lives he touched through his service and kindness.
Robert’s life was one of devotion—to his country, his career, his faith, his family, and his community. His legacy will live on through the many generations of his family and through the lessons of service, love, and perseverance that he shared throughout his life.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
