Roger Dale Cottrell died on June 6, 2026, in Sacramento, California. Roger was born to Eldred George and Ruth Irene in Worland, Wyoming on October 17, 1940. He was the fourth child of five who also included Shirley, Cathryn, Robert “Bob,” and Edith. The family eventually moved to Idaho, both Arco and Nampa, where he enjoyed his youth. Roger started working at an early age in the local potato farms as a “picker,” along with the other community members. At 14, the family relocated to Lakewood, California where Roger attended Bellflower High School and played football for the school. He also liked cars and motorcycles; the latter having led to a significant accident during his Senior year. From Roger’s first marriage, he was blessed with two children, Cindy and Glenn. After working at a pawn shop and market, Roger found a successful career path in banking. While as a bank manager at Pacific Savings, he eventually met and married the love of his life, Bertha “Jean” Martinez. They were blessed with two additional children, Brenda and Laura. They lived in Norwalk, California until 1975. At this time, they relocated to Citrus Heights in Northern California, a suburb of Sacramento, due to Roger’s promotion to Regional Vice President of a large bank. Roger set about overseeing the construction of their house on 1 ¼ acres, raising steer for meat, growing the family’s own produce, and working hard managing his many bank branches. Roger also spent his recreational time hunting and fishing with his best friends, camping with his family and friends, and enjoying trips, activities, baptisms, and sporting events with those he loved. He was also a fan of BYU football. Roger is survived by his younger sister Edith Noel, his four children, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Roger is preceded in death by his wife, Bertha “Jean” Cottrell, sisters Shirley and Cathryn, brother Robert “Bob,” and parents Eldred and Ruth. Friends and family are invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, June 19, 2026 at 2pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (8056 Oak Ave., Citrus Heights, CA 95610). Roger Dale Cottrell will have a grave site gathering on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 1 pm at Rose Hills Memorial Park, located at 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, CA 90601.
