Rosemary Nina Markson

Rosemary Nina Markson née Lubis passed away suddenly on July 18, 2025 in Carmichael, California at the age of 99. She is survived by her son Bill, her daughter-in-law Liliane, her grandson David, her granddaughter-in-law Andréa and her two great-grandchildren Sofia and Benjamin.

Rosemary was born on April 26, 1926 in Shenandoah, PA. She grew up in Shamokin, PA with her parents and her older brother Bill. Her father was an accomplished musician who toured as a clarinetist with the Sousa Band. He taught her to play the piano.

Desiring from childhood to become a nurse and mother, she obtained her Registered Nurse diploma from Frankford Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA in 1946. She then worked at the Veterans Administration hospital in Coatesville, PA where she met her future husband Seymour “Mark“ Markson.

In 1960 the family moved to California and in 1967 settled in Fair Oaks where she lived for 53 years in the house she loved at 8137 Treecrest Avenue.  She continued to work intermittently in hospitals and as a visiting nurse, specializing in psychiatry. In 2020 she moved to a senior residence apartment at Oakmont of Carmichael.

She enjoyed the regular visits from the family and was especially close to her two great-grandchildren who keep fond memories of her.

Rosemary had many friends throughout her life and outlived almost all of them. She enjoyed oil painting and reading. The people at Oakmont loved her for her quiet, friendly manner and attention to others. As a fitting conclusion to her life, she went to her reward, as she would say, joking with her caregiver on the way to dinner.
