Seth Raymond Cohen Obituary
Seth Cohen, much-loved husband, father, brother, and son passed away on May 7, 2024 in a tragic motor vehicle accident. A funeral service will be held at Fair Oaks Cemetery, 7780 Olive St., Fair Oaks, CA 95628 on Friday, May 17 at 1:00 PM. Reception to follow at 10120 Fair Oaks Blvd, Fair Oaks, CA 95628 (an old house in Fair Oaks Village).
Seth was born in 1980 to Ted and Diane Cohen and grew up in Fair Oaks, CA, attended grade school at St. Mel School, and continued onto Jesuit High School. He was an incredibly bright student, played school sports (baseball, basketball and cross country), participated in Boy Scouts, and had a tight-knit group of friends.
Through his schooling at Jesuit High School, he developed a passion for social justice issues and went on to University of California, Los Angeles to pursue a degree in Political Science. He successfully gained employment as a labor union organizer and political campaign staffer, working tirelessly for the benefit of workers and neighbors whose voice would have otherwise gone unheard.
In 2009, inspired by his own personal challenges, he went back to school in pursuit of a Master’s Degree in Social Work from California State University Sacramento, where he graduated and launched his second career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). He excelled in his professional life and eventually became a therapist and manager at Kaiser Permanente, South Sacramento Addiction Medicine and Recovery Services Department.
Seth has always been a big sports fan. Having spent his college years and young adulthood in Los Angeles, he was a life-long, die-hard LA Dodgers fan, a sometimes LA Lakers fan (if only to annoy his parents), and later, a fair-weather Sacramento Kings fan. He travelled to various places throughout the world, including trips to Europe, Central and South America, and Southeast Asia, having a penchant for adventures and immersing himself in the local culture. He was a voracious reader and did not hesitate to engage in a spirited debate. He also had a love of the outdoors, including cycling and hiking, and even hiked the entire John Muir Trail (230 miles) in the summer of 2006 with his younger brother, Nathan. Throughout his life, he always had close friends who would drop anything and everything to be there for him.
In 2015, he married Ariana Hammett and moved to Roseville, CA. In 2016, he and Ariana had their first son, Arlo, followed by Dario in 2019. He was a deeply devoted and loving father, and his kids were the focal point of his life. Vacations and “free time” were spent with the boys, giving them priceless experiences with endless love and joy. He enjoyed going on neighborhood walks with the boys and their two dogs, Shep and Charlie, playing in the pool and soaking in the hot tub, playing soccer with them, and coaching Dario’s Tee-ball team.
Seth is survived by his wife, Ariana Hammett Cohen; sons: Arlo and Dario; brother Nathan Cohen (Susan Nawbary); sister Rebecca Waranowitz (George); father Ted Cohen, and 9 nieces and nephews. Seth is predeceased by his mother, Diane Cohen.
