Shirley Rosalyn Bishop

Shirley Rosalyn (Woodard) Bishop, born August 30th, 1922, died peacefully on September 8th, 2025 at the age of 103. She was born in Tooele, Utah to Harry Jay and Josephine (Shields) Woodard. She was the oldest of five children followed by Virginia, Sheldon Jay, Mary Louise and Carolyn Josephine. As a child she lived in a house made of logs, like a log cabin, and had no indoor running water or bathroom. She attended school in Tooele, Utah until her family moved to California where she attended high school in Galt. When she was in grade school, she played on a softball team and loved playing the other teams.  She loved all kinds of sports throughout her life. Her father raised chickens, and she would take the eggs to Tooele, going house to house, selling them for 10 cents a dozen.

Shirley and Gordon Bishop were married for 71 years.  Her dream was to own a home and to have 4 children, which she accomplished.  Her home of 73 years was in Sacramento California.  She is survived by her children Merrell W., Karen Colleen, Lawrence Lee, and Kenneth Edward.  Shirley loved her 9 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren, and her 6 Great-Great Grandchildren.  She was loved by all.

Shirley and her husband Gordon loved to travel in their camp trailer, and traveled all over the Western United States.  They would often take their grandchildren along with them. She loved her life and often said, “she’d not change anything about it”. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the caregivers, and to everyone who visited and cared for her.
