Shirley Ann Kersey

Shirley Ann Dougherty Kersey, whose loving hands served family throughout her life, passed away in Orangevale, California, on July 3, 2026. She was 92 years old.

Born on September 12, 1933, in Phoenix, Maricopa, Arizona, to Asa and Leanora Sutton, Shirley was the third youngest of ten children. Her life was defined by dedicated love to her family. She proudly supported her country as a key punch operator and supported her husband Dean in his service in the military. Through their military career together they were blessed with two sons, James and Ronald.

Shirley was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous callings throughout her life. She served as a primary teacher, Sunday school teacher, primary pianist, as well as a visiting and home teacher. In her later years she spent hours researching her family tree and serving in the temple. She considered this her mission.

One of Shirley’s loves in life was preparing sweets for her children and grandchildren! Spending countless hours on custom, extravagant birthday cakes and holiday desserts was one way Shirley showed her undying love and devotion to her family. She also enjoyed playing the piano and would spend hours enjoying the songs. Watching her grandchildren perform in plays, musical productions, and sports brought Shirley immense happiness!

Shirley’s greatest joy and deepest love was for her family. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Dean, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her two sons and their wives: James and Carri Kersey, and Ronald and Cindy Kersey; as well as by her 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She will be cherished for years to come.

A service will be held on July 25, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 8056 Oak Avenue, Citrus Heights, CA. A viewing will take place at the church at 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.  Price Funeral Chapel (916-725-2109), directors.
