Thomas Edward Gatewood, age 76, passed away on June 8, 2026, in Rocklin, California.

Born in Washington, D.C. in 1950, Tom lived a life marked by service, kindness, and dedication to others. He was married to his beloved wife, Candice Rae Smith, in 1972, who preceded him in death. 

Tom built a long and successful career as a financial accountant with IBM. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany.

Beyond his professional life, he was deeply committed to helping others. For over 10 years, he volunteered with the Roseville Methodist Church, helping to feed those in need. He also devoted much of his time to supporting seniors in his church community—assisting with shopping, driving them to appointments, and sharing companionship over many lunches, often at Wendy’s, a favorite stop for many.

Tom had a love for travel and a special place in his heart for his dogs. He will be remembered for his generosity, quiet compassion, and willingness to show up for others in meaningful ways.

He is survived by his siblings, Ann Lewin, Peggy Leslie, William Gatewood, and Danny Gatewood. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.

A service to honor Thomas’s life was held June 9, 2026 at the First United Methodist Church in Loomis, California. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society.

Thomas will be deeply missed by all who knew him and whose lives he touched through his kindness and care.
