Thomas John Listavich

Thomas John Listavich passed away peacefully on June 21st, 2025, in Gold River, California, just shy of his 84th birthday. Tom was born on July 2nd, 1941, in Worcester, Massachusetts, the son of John and Nellie Listavich.

Tom and his mom Nellie moved to Long Beach, California during World War II while his dad John worked in New Mexico as a machinist for the war effort.  John rejoined the family in Long Beach, after which Tom’s sister Rita was born. 

After graduating college, Tom joined the Navy where he served during the Vietnam War.  Upon leaving the Navy, he worked as a manager for the City of Los Angeles. Both of his children, Lara (1968) and Scot (1969) were born in Southern California.  Also, during this time in SoCal, Tom achieved his juris doctorate in law, of which he was very proud. 

After nearly 20 years working for the City of LA, Tom moved to Sacramento in 1989 where he worked for the Franchise Tax Board of California.  Tom retired from the Tax Board after approximately 20 years.

Tom was a voracious reader and connoisseur of musicals, television and movies.  He loved playing games, gambling and dabbled in writing.  He had a lifelong passion for building realistic looking plastic model replicas, especially of military equipment such as airplanes and tanks. 

He is survived by his sister Rita Long, his two children, Lara Ferrato and Scot Listavich, his five grandchildren Tabitha Buss, Bryan Ferrato, Dexter Listavich, Max Listavich, and Zoe Listavich, as well as his four great grandchildren Veronica Buss, Harvey Buss, Abigail Buss and Jamison Ferrato.

Tom was a very creative force in the lives that he touched.  He was famous for his sense of humor and biting wit.  He will be missed.  Rest in Peace Tom.

Funeral Services will be held at Price Funeral Chapel (6335 Sunrise Blvd., Citrus Heights, CA 95610) on Sunday, November 9, 2025 at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow.
