Tom Malsbary passed away in his Rocklin, CA home on June 28, 2020, at the age of 72 after a battle with glioblastoma multiforme (brain cancer). He is fondly remembered by his family, friends, and co-workers.
Tom lived a full and happy life. He was born in Oakland, CA as the eldest of 3 boys to kind and devoted parents Amy and Walter. He spent part of his high school years in Uniontown, PA but returned to CA to graduate from San Leandro High School a year ahead of his peers. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from University of California at Berkeley before serving his country in the Army. He trained in Fort Ord and was sent to Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam and later, Saigon. Upon his return he earned an MBA, in marketing, also from UC Berkeley and was hired by Macy’s. This began a lifelong career in retail management of over 46 years and at the time of his death was still not retired.
Tom met the love of his life, Frances, while on vacation in Arches, UT. They were married in March of 1973 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and settled in Danville, CA where they lived (for 38 years) and raised their family. He was a man of faith and enjoyed serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He enjoyed serving others including at girl’s camp, The Boy Scouts of America, and coaching his sons’ soccer teams. He was also active in Rotary Clubs in various cities and hobbies included: playing guitar and singing with his children; he was an avid reader.
He is predeceased by his father and mother, Walter F. and Amy J. Malsbary. He is survived by his two brothers, Donald J. (Marianne) Malsbary, of Aptos CA; and Gerald H. (Katherine) Malsbary, of Black Mountain NC; his wife Frances H; and four children: Michelle C. (Edwin) Sanchez, of East Wenatchee WA; Ross C. (Danielle) Malsbary, of Eagle Mountain UT; Elizabeth A. (Brian) Burton, of Saratoga Springs, UT; Todd S. (Jacqueline) Malsbary of Windsor, CA; and 13 grandchildren. He will be forever in our hearts and memories until we meet again.
