William D. J. French, age 90, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2022, in Sacramento, California. William (Bill) was born to William James French and Mary Abigal Hunter on April 5, 1932, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Bill grew up in Canada and was tasked at an early age to care for his younger siblings. He later became a United States Citizen and served oversees in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
On February 14, 1967, he married Joan Doloro Larsen in the Oakland Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Bill and Joan had met years earlier while in Germany through mutual friends and their romance blossomed. The couple had three sons and a daughter and chose to settle in Sacramento, California, where they were surrounded by numerous family members.
Bill worked as a substitute schoolteacher for many years before becoming a Registered Nurse. Always compassionate and empathetic, he worked in the healthcare profession for many years, first at the local hospital and later in a correctional setting.
Bill was a lover of classical music (especially the violin), oil painting, and Costco. His greatest joy came from spending quality time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family. This joy was only matched by the sweet companionship William shared with his beloved dogs.
He is preceded in death by his wife Joan, his daughter Michelle, his parents, stepmother Helen, sister Betty, brother Edward, and brother David. He is survived by his three sons, Robert, Gary, and Brian, brother Jack, sister Barbara, sister Karen, brother James, sister Linda, and grandchildren, Amber, Cameron, Morgan, Abby, Brady, and Olivia.
He will be laid to rest next to his wife and daughter at Camellia Memorial Lawn after a private family ceremony on Wednesday, September 14, 2022.
