Winifred Joan Witmer

Winifred Witmer - Septmeber 19th, 1932 - August 24th, 2025

Winifred "Winnie" Joan (Flachman) Witmer passed away on August 24th, 2025 at the age of 92. Born on September 19th, 1932 in Kramer, Nebraska, she was the eldest daughter of Fred Flachman and Ruth Margaret Burk's 8 children. Her affectionate childhood nickname of Snookie or Snook persisted long into adulthood, with some younger family members only knowing her by that name. She married her loving husband, John Dunnette Witmer, on July 12th, 1953 in Lincoln, Nebraska. They were together for 64 years until John's passing in 2017. They moved to Sacramento, California shortly after the birth of their first son, Jon. There, she began an over 30-year long career at McClellan Air Force Base which brought her great pride.
 

She will be remembered as an excellent cook; filling tables with more delicious food than her family could ever eat. She was a talented sewist; constructing clothes, costumes and custom home furnishings with beauty and exacting precision. 
 

Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ruth, her siblings Richard, Thomas, Kay, Karol, Dennis, Douglas, and her son, Jon Charles Witmer. Winnie is survived by her son Jeffery Witmer, sister Lynda (Flachman) Nichols, daughter-in-law Frances Anne Ross-Witmer, granddaughters Rose Laurie Witmer, Maggie Lena Witmer, and Francesca Marie Witmer and great-grandson Miles John Witmer-Dossman
