Dennis von Brauchitsch, 78, of Granite Bay passed away February 12, 2017. He was born in Ames, Iowa then spent most of his childhood living in Des Moines, Iowa.  Dennis was deeply committed to his family and higher education. He completed his Bachelor degree at University of Iowa. He then met the love of his life, Yvonne and they were married on June 11, 1962 in her home town of Albany, Minnesota.  Their adventurous spirit led them to leave their mid western roots and move to Sacramento in 1963.  Dennis advanced his knowledge base by obtaining a Masters degree in History at Sacramento State University while working full time for San Juan Unified School District.  For 25 years he taught Political Science and History at the High School level. His passion though had always been to obtain a Juris Doctorate.  In 1987, he received his degree from McGeorge School of Law and became a member of the California Bar.  Dennis worked as an criminal defense attorney in the Sacramento area until a devastating illness nearly took his life and forced his early retirement in 2002. He prided himself in representing his clients with strong ethical conviction and compassion.  Dennis was a kind, loving, and proud husband, father and grandfather. He found great enjoyment in watching his grandchildren's games whether it be basketball, volleyball, baseball, or softball.  Spending time with his family brought him so much joy. He and Yvonne both loved animals and most of their lives together cared for at least two dogs.  Dennis was passionate about sports and in his pastime enjoyed watching football, basketball, or baseball. He played football both in his youth as well as for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes.  He was a gentle giant, standing six foot four at his peak.  Dennis was blessed with quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. He loved jazz and classical music.  Dennis courageously overcame many medical challenges. He endured multiple surgeries and hospitalizations.   His family would like to thank the doctors that provided his excellent care and allowed him to be with us for an additional 14 years. He passed suddenly on Sunday February 12, 2017 from surgical complications.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia, and father, Carl von Brauchitsch.  Dennis is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Yvonne von Brauchitsch of Granite Bay. He is also survived by his son, Doug von Brauchitsch (Lezlie), his daughter, Kristine Ahern (Brian), his grandchildren Calahan, Luke, and Megan, step-grandchildren Ethan and Emily,  his two sisters, Ruth Kirkman (Bill) and Patricia Folkers, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all that knew him.  Memorial services followed by a reception will be held for Dennis on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 11:30 am at St. Joseph Marello Catholic Church, 7200 Auburn-Folsom Road, Granite Bay, CA. 95746.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite charity in his memory.  PRICE FUNERAL CHAPEL (725-2109), directors.
